I know, it has been a bit…… Life has been busy 2 steps forward, and 1 back. One day at a time is still our motto! Since our return from Craig Allie has been struggling with UTI and catheter issues. Those darn ab muscles are too strong and the bug she got in her bladder was hard to get rid of. Stinks when you start to know which nurse in emergency you want to draw blood lol. Overall however I feel like when I look at her I see she is stronger and healthier. The journey is far from over but all the little stuff counts.
We did order the FES bike and Ins has denied it because there isn’t enough proof basically that it works. After seeing how Allie’s muscles respond to this, it is not an option for her not to have it. Dana and I feel like it will give her her best opportunity for more neuro recovery and long term keep her muscles not only stronger but from atrophying. Lets face it, she was an active, athlete who craves and needs to exercise. She is so anxious for someone to get to VT and set it up!!
Craig did call, right now they are hopeful to have us back there in October or November for 4 weeks of intensive therapy. Not as hopeful as we are though.
Allie is currently starting her goal of trying to give back. Team Allie B, that was started last year is growing and Allie hopes to be able to ride an adaptive bike this year and help her team raise money for the Kelly Brush Foundation which helps people get back into active life styles. She is also reaching out to others with spinal cord injuries as Kelly and Roy Tuscany and Lee Roy did for us to offer support along the way.
Meanwhile we remain hopeful, are enjoying the longer days and looking forward to sunshine and warmer days. Allies goal is to get stronger, and work on a plan for volunteering in schools in the fall. She is going to a couple concerts and look out- there is a car driven by a young lady with an ” Allie Strong” logo on the hood at Thunder Road! We so appreciate the support and want to help empower others to be “Allie Strong”.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. We would not be where we are today without all of you….
Hugs, Lisa
