August 15 Update

  • Journal

Hard to believe its been over a week already and yet it seems like a year.  In a week so much has happened.  Allie is making it all happen and all is positive.  She has been surrounded by so much love and support that she is bolstered and ready to hit Spaulding rehab with some tears today only because she will miss so many people , including the amazing staff of nurses who have shown her such love and compassion.

That being said, Althea Devereux will be riding in the Kelly Brush ride in Allies honor this September.  Team Allie B!  Several of the nurses will be riding with her and anyone who is interested is welcome to join!  Proceeds go to the foundation that helps people get equipment they need with these types of injuries to help them continue to have active lives.

Allie is medically ready to travel, we are waiting to see if it can happen tomorrow or not.  Her strength in her arms and even her wrist continues to improve daily.  She is learning to pinch with forefinger and thumb, and working on making a fist or curling her fingers.  She is so damn strong.  I haven’t noticed a lot more sensation in her legs however, that being said she is becoming more aware of other sensations in her core and mid section- she said she could feel herself clenching her glutes and PT said they couldn’t be 100%, but believed she could when she was trying to wiggle her toes.  I can only believe with more PT we will see more gradual gains.  However I tell myself daily- we have her and that’s what’s most important and try to only see all the positive like the gains she is making and the positive impact she continues to make on all those around her.  This is our new world and we are blessed

It looks like Allie will now be headed most likely Wednesday to Boston- She is very anxious for rehab and is ready for her next adventure but a little scared.  Had a small going away party in the parking lot at the hospital.  Her dear friends from college came for a quick visit to help send her off.  Please keep her in your prayers and we will see what the next few days bring!  Thank you all for EVERYTHING!
