August 27 Update

  • Journal

Today marks 3 weeks.  Our focus and lives have changed for now, but thanks to all of your love and support, and the fact that we have Allie cat we will all be ok.

Allie continues to stay strong.  Mornings waking up to this new world are the hardest.  I am sure she has started reaching out to many of you when she has time to help  pass some of the hard times.  Her therapy continues, they are focused on her Occupational therapy as this is where she is strongest.  She is learning to be able to brush her teeth with assistance and work more on feeding herself.  It all requires a wrist brace right now but after watching her OT session, her wrists are definitely getting stronger bit by bit.  She also is moving her shoulders more.  Once that damn chest brace and neck brace come off (as scary as that seems to her) her mobility in her upper body can only get better.  OT said things will be very different when she leaves here.  I believe in Allie so it will.  I also feel she feels just little bits more here and there.  It takes up to 6 moths for the spinal cord to fully heal.  Oh yeah she hugged me last night- I made her lol  Those hands just have to come a little more…

They have a tentative release date of Oct 5th.  This could be a few days later it gives them leeway to get everything set up.  That being said we have a lot to do…..  Today is tree day and I think 5-6 trees are coming down for the sunroom, Thanks to a Richmond friend who knows what he is doing!  Another will be digging the foundation as soon as permit gets approved.  Others are helping us move a bathroom wall, design and install a bathroom to help Allie be comfortable at home as she progresses in her recovery.  What a wonderful community we live in.  35 or so years ago we picked right when we landed here and our house has grown with us .

Allie was told yesterday that her injury was considered complete.  I believe that will be re evaluated when she leaves here .  Just means more work on her part to get where she wants which right now means not in an electric chair!!  I am amazed at her skill in the power chair I have to say and we all know Allie- when she sets her mind to something if it can happen it will!  I told her if not in the next 5 weeks maybe when we hit 6 months!?!

Thank you all for your continued love and support she loves reading your messages and it really does bolster us all to know she is in your thoughts and prayers.  This SUCKS, but she is one special young woman who will find a way to make a difference when the time is right.
