October 9, 2022 – SHE’S HOME

  • Journal

Another crazy week.  Another week with a lot of highs and a few lows.  So many things going on and happening to be ready for Allie to come home.  So many emotions.

We cannot begin to thank all of you – this past week so many more stepped up to help us get the house project close to completion.  The goal of no sheetrock dust has been accomplished after a final cleaning today!  Allies room is ready- it is beautiful – the love involved in this makes it shine!!  The bathroom is ready for tile. It is so close.  The yard will have grass soon and our little world will feel complete when we drive in that yard tomorrow with Allie.

Allie has had a lot of emotions this week and well deserved.  Her procedure went well.  There are just a lot of reminders that life won’t be what it was when she left.  However- better than when she left UVM and so much more to come.  Remember this is just phase 1!  She continues to show more strength in her triceps-slow but sure.  She is getting stronger in her manual chair and I see her holding her water bottle and using her arms to do more- like learning to help roll herself and the hugs…..are the best part!  She has 3 more weeks of the stupid braces and once these come off there will be a lot of new muscles to start to build.  However her mobility in many ways will increase.  Her nerves seem to be continuing to slowly wake up.  More little sensations- often feels like a burning sensation letting her know they are there.

Exciting news- a Dr. – Neurosurgeon saw Allie on Thursday.  He was impressed with what she is already capable of and feeling.  He normally does a procedure on nerves on people with C6-C7 injuries but feels he may be able to help her hands back some if she needs it!  He wants to see her again in Jan/Feb to see what she has gotten back and go from there. WOW!  So much hope.  Just the fact he says if she needs it!  We are waiting for Monday when she gets her Asia test redone, its just a number but a positive number would just give us more positive!!  We still, along with her Dr. here do not believe she is complete so that leaves more room for recovery.  That is all part of why I am waiting to post this weeks journal.

We have spoken with Dr. Knakal at UVM.  They have most of what she needs to do to keep her moving forward.  She is feeling ready for it all again, but dreading waiting for the in home Pt and Ot to give her a referral- you know Allie- lets get this show on the road.  The only thing she will miss is walking, that stim machine moving her legs made her feel so good.  I feel like we need to see if there is one anywhere closer that we can get her on even once a month.

So tomorrow we load up the van and head to Richmond (Thank you Lee, Brenda and Travis Roy).

Goodbye Spaulding!  We are on the road and anxious to get home!  Allie did awesome and her Asia score that was an A complete is now a B incomplete!  Whoot whoot!  Will post again and send more pics when we get settled!  Keep those prayers coming look at what Allie and her city have accomplished.  Again many Thanks….❤️
