September 10 Update

  • Journal

I am going to say even though there were bumps, this week was a win.  Biggest bump being that Allie will be in her neck and chest brace for 12 not 8 weeks……but we will make that work!  Small wins made Allie smile more than once and are what we all need to stay on course!

Small win- she told her Dr that she was having these new little sensations in her body.  Her body is waking up a little!  We have to remind ourselves it’s just been a little over a month-3-6 months for the spinal cord to heal.  Bigger win, she tried the manual chair and exceeded expectations (if you know Allie this isn’t surprising).  Doesn’t mean she is ready for it vs electric chair but is a step towards one of her first goals!  Big win- team Allie B has raised over $7000  for the Kelly Brush foundation.  We can’t thank you all enough for riding 50-100 miles in Allies honor or your donations to this wonderful cause.  Allie and I will be joining Dana there next year.  Althea- thank you for staying in VT long enough to make this happen.

With one month to go until she returns home, we are all focused on how to best get her there and what she needs.  She is focused on learning as much as she can while gaining more strength to help herself with self care.  She can’t see it herself but those watching are seeing her slowly do more with her arms and hands.  She did manage to scoop up 1 chip and get it to her mouth SO EXICITING! Go Allie B!

The house project is continuing.  The foundation has been poured and I believe the framing  will start next weekend.  Next weekend we will also meet with her team and get a better idea of where she is at what’s to come.  Equipment needs to be ordered etc etc.  Exciting to know she will be home soon but also so much to think about.  Bathroom remodel will be discussed and finalized this week as well.

After this weekend with her, I see the fight growing in her belly.  She wants to be pushed more than she is and wants things to happen while she is here.  She is talking about her life at home more and what will drive her nuts  (mainly the inability to get out of the house- if you know anything about Allie-she likes to be pushed and hates sitting idle at home).

Please keep praying , I do believe it is working.  We wish for so much more but are so grateful for every little inch.
